Pumpkin Patch

Fall harvest is when the pumpkins are ready
to make their big debut for Halloween,
then it's on to Thanksgiving
and those home made pumpkin pies,
while keeping an eye out for The Great Pumpkin
of Charlie Brown's dreams.

Jaguar SS100

The Jag SS100 was built by SS Cars Ltd
in Coventry England from 1936 to 1939.

This precursor of the modern Jaguar Motorcar
Company we know today actually grew out of
the Swallow Sidecar company which
manufactured sidecars for motorcycles.

The sports car legacy was carried forward
from Swallow to Jaguar through the 'leaper',
the famous large graceful cat that was first
introduced as a hood ornament on the SS100.

The Gristmill

Gristmills, typically powered by a waterwheel,
were used to grind cereal grains into flour
and were essential to the growth of small towns.

The earliest known example was noted to exist
in Asia Minor around the year 71 BC.

Magic Mountain

I probably intended to have a lot more detail in this image, but when I saw how the colors were working together I decided to leave it alone.

A tranquil place after summer slips away and we ease ourselves into autumn.

Barn Raising

Barn Raisings were a common communal activity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries as settlers pushed westward in North America, and still occur in today's Amish and Mennonite communities. It was a tradition to place a wreath at the high point of the frame when completed. This 'Topping Out' practice is now carried on by modern steel workers when a flag is hung from the last part of a skyscraper's steel skeleton.

Gateway

I've seen things popping up on the internet about ancient artifacts and archeological sites that seem to date much farther back in time than our current knowledge of history would allow. Maybe that's where my mind was when I started working on this image. Who were these people that built these places? Lost civilizations? Ancient aliens? Your guess is as good as mine...

Great Falls - Paterson

In 1792 Paterson NJ was established as the first planned industrial city in the US. Power supplied by The Great Falls of the Passaic River was the hub of this development.

Devil's Tower

Close Encounters of the Third Kind was based around an incident at Devil's Tower and could be one of my all time favorite movies, but since it was released in 1977 there is probably a whole generation [or two] that haven't even heard of it. If you are one of those, check your TV On Demand listings and take a look.

Chess

I play chess... occasionally. I've never studied the game, nor do I know the nomenclature for specific moves, but I play chess. My approach is akin to that of a game of checkers, but I play none the less. When I do play, I play against a computer program that takes mili-seconds to look several moves ahead, while I take long enough to go out for a beer and a pizza. I have yet to win a game, but I still play. I mean... why not...
